OLYMPICS; Hollywood comes to Lake Placid

Olympic athletes who also happen to be film buffs are in for a real treat if they stay in Lake Placid's Olympic village. Thirty-three Hollywood classics will be shown in the village's in-house movie theater. The task of selecting films representing the best in American cinema over the past half century fell to a committee sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The fare includes "Gone With the Wind," "Rocky," "2001: A Space Odyssey," and "Casablanca."

This film festival will be one of several diversions intended to keep the athletes occupied while in the village, eventually slated to become a prison. There also is a library with periodicals from around the world, pinball machines featuing Olympic themes, a "live" theater where name entertainers will perform, and a disco.
