US Ambassador to Colombia Diego Ascencio was shot and wounded Wednesday when left-wing guerrillas stormed the Bogota Embassy of the Dominican Republic. A spokesman at Bogota's Military Hospital said Mr. Ascencio was hit by three bullets and was undergoing surgery. His condition was not known. One of his bodyguards also was wounded, the spokesman said.
