Ex-cultist members slain in California
| San francisco
Two former Peoples Temple members who had left the cult to form a "deprogramming agency" for disaffected followers of the Rev. Jim Jones were shot and killed in their berkeley, Calif., home Tuesday. Monitor correspondent Brad Knickerbocker reports that the two, Al and Jeannie Mills, rose to the highest ranks of the cult during their six years of membership, but left in 1975 to found the Human Freedom Center, where many ex-cultists sought help. No suspects were in custody at this writing, but the murders raised questions about a Peoples Temple "hit list" that was reported to remain after the mass murder and suicide in Jonestown, Guyana, 15 months ago.
