Citrus in trouble in Florida freeze

Temperatures plunged to crop- killing depths in Florida Tuesday, marking the third straight day of freezing weather in parts of the Sunshine State. It's sure to mean consumers will pay higher fruit and vegetable prices.

Sun graced the mid-Atlantic region, allowing residents to venture out for the first time since a weekend storm buried the area in record snows and killed at least 40 people. A new snowstorm brewing in the Rockies threatened to smother parts of Colorado.

A blast of cold air swooped into the South, endangering citrus and vegetable crops and producing record-low tremperatures as far south as Key West, Fla. -- the southernmost point in the continental United States. Temperatures across Florida ranged from the 20s in the Panhandle to the 40s in the southern area. Record lows were set for the third straight day in Tallahassee, Fla., at 21 degrees; Daytona Beach, Fla., at 28 degrees; and Augusta, Ga., at 19 degrees.
