Soviet film shows 'grateful' Afghan people

Moscow television showed for the first time on Wednesday night film of Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan and said the Afghan people were deeply grateful for their presence. The main evening news program showed Soviet soldiers repairing flood damage and distributing food to homeless flood victims near the southern city of Kandahar.
The film followed a series of press reports in the past week depicting Soviet soldiers as winning a battle for hearts and minds in Afghanistan with medical and other social services.
