Chase boosts prime rate another half -- to 18 1/4%

Chase Manhattan Bank, the nation's third largest bank, Thursday raised its prime lending rate by a half percentage point to a record 18 1/4 percent. Other banks were expected to follow soon. The prime rate is the interest banks charge their best corporate customers for short-term loans.
