My offering

Poetry is a way of seeing into the heart of things. It is an illumina tion of the spirit that transforms the everyday world into new dimensions of meaning and beauty. That pale green moth on the window, those black crows flying against scattered clouds, the smell of woodsmoke on the afternoon air -- these are all poems. Each moment of my life holds poems that only wait to be discovered. Do I have enough love, enough vision, to see the poetry everywhere?

When I give you my poems, what I am giving you is not words, but myself.m My poems speak for me more than any gesture or embrace ever could. When I say, "Here is a poem I wrote," what I am also saying is this: "Here I am -- seeing, thinking, feeling, responding, caring."m

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
