Aid packages assembled for newly born Zimbabwe

Britain Tuesday announced a $165 million development and technical aid program for Rhodesia, a British colony that will achieve independence as Zimbabwe this Friday. In addition, Britain will help train the Zimbabwe Army, Foreign Secretary Lord Carrington said.

The United States Monday announced it would give $15 million in economic aid to Rhodesia. The United Nations will contribute $140 million to help displaced people and refugees returning home to Rhodesia after the seven-year guerrilla war.
