Sims of Oklahoma picked by Lions in football draft

Record-breaking running back Billy Sims of Oklahoma, the Heisman Trophy winner in 1978 and runner-up last year, was selected by the Detroit Lions Tuesday as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1980 national Football League draft. the New York Jets, who obtained the second overall choice in a last-minute trade , used it to acquire Olympic sprinter Johnny (Lam) Jones, the Texas wide receiver who won a gold medal as a member of the 1976 US 400-meter relay team at montreal.
