Unexpected Songs

Near dawn, but still encompassed in the dark, Finches will utter unexpected songs. Before the rooster or the crow they sing. They break into the vestiges of sleep With images more clear than vivid dreams: The dark tree, grass just catching light, And music, streaking through the mind Like a certain color never to be seen. Througout the day they come back, undefined.
