Islamic lands seek to join in collective security

Envoys from 39 Muslim countries and the Palestine Liberation Organization have agreed to discuss collective security to defend the Muslim world against the superpowers and Israel, an official spokesman said Sunday. A joint security system was proposed by Pakistan Saturday at the opening session of the Islamic Conference Organization's annual conference.It is intended to be political and economic rather than military. Afghanistan, suspended from the conference since the Soviet Union's military intervention last December in support of President Babrak Karmal, is barred from the session.
