Armed froces short of oil for fuel, US panel says

The armed forces have a serious shortage of oil for fuel which the reatens their readiness, according to a report ussued Monday by a congressional panel. Defense Department petroleum stocks fell 6 percent between September 1978 and September 1979, the report by the investigations subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee said. To sustain peacetime operations, the Defense Department had been drawing from its war reserve stocks. In September last year stocks of jet fuel were more than 8 million barrels below the target level.
