The Equal Rights Amendment, on a vote of 102 to 71, failed to be ratified by just 5 votes Wednesday in the Illinois House of Representatives. Before the amendment was declared defeated, it was put on postponed consideration, which opens the door for yet another vote on the proposal anytime between now and next Jan. 1.
