British Airways proposes $185 Atlantic air fare

British Airways proposed standby fares Sunday beginning at $185, one way, to London from New York or Boston, rates the airline claims are the lowest on the North Atlantic route. The current British Airways standby fare to London from New York is $221; from Boston, $214.

Standby prices to London from Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will also be reduced. The new fares, which must be approved by the US Civil Aeronautics Board, would begin Sept. 15.
