US pushes satellite setup to aid crop forecasting

A satellite system to aid agricultural crop forecasting was proposed to Congress Tuesday by the Commerce Department's environmental agency. The new system would also provide extensive information to aid rangeland and forest management, mineral and petroleum exploration, mapping, land-use planning, water quality analysis, and disaster assessment. The cost for the system could range from $1 billion to $10 billion.
