One of the last two secessionist villages to hold out on the South Pacific island of Espiritu Santo has accepted government authority, and resistance is expected to cease by the end of the week, a Vanuatu government spokesman says. Papua New Guinea troops crushed the last major resistance to the government Sunday when they stormed the rebel stronghold of Vanafo, capturing 71 men including rebel leader Jimmy Stevens.
