Third Abscam-case trial begins in Philadelphia

The nation's third Abscam trial started Monday after the judge severed two of the four defendants from the case because of questions arising from their previous conviction during the first Abscam trial in New York. The judge also refused to rule on a motion filed by the televisison networks to let them copy videotaped evidence while the trial is in process. He said he did not want to rule until the New York appeal had been heard Friday.
