A Snapshot of Becky On the First Day of Pre-School
She stands upon fall could of leaves. A single leaf, caught in the camera's eye, Hangs suspended between Earth & tree Like a moment stopped. Behind Her, the sky admits blue between the bare Maple limbs. Now where, you ask, was I? She will remember you were there Hidden from sight outside the brainless lens. Just as you & I are hidden here With no artist or picture-taking friend To seal our moment, replay our smiles, Our frowns, or that instant when A scarlet leaf might stop its whirling flight, Ignoring time, a statue in the air. Becky, at four, kept her pose, & wise Beyond her days, she held back tears As we captured this pale glimpse, this dim mirror.
