Iran votes to set up hostage review panel
| Tehran, Iran
Iran's parliament has voted by a decisive majority to form a special commission -- which will hold its first meeting Thursday -- to review the hostage crisis. Before the vote, parliamentary Speaker Hashemi Rafsanjani said Iran has not dropped a key demand that the US apologize for its actions during the Shah's rule.
With signs that the parliament was finally moving on the issue, the families of the captive Americans offered to participate in a settlement leading to the hostages' release. In a letter delivered to Mr. Rafsanjani they said they would go anywhere the parliament deemed suitable to help end the 11-month-old impasse.
