China warns of retaliation in Viet border skirmishes

China accused Vietnam of stepping up the undeclared border was between the two nations and in a strong protest note warned it might take retaliatory military action. In a series of Vietnamese artillery bombardments and ground incursions in the last few weeks, China claimed many of its troops and civilians were killed and wounded and property destroyed.
