Likely census result: 10 states gain, 8 lose

While it will not be known until late next month what shifts the 1980 census may cause in the House of Representatives, Census Bureau projections indicate eight states would lose representation and 10 would gain:

States expected to gain congressmen (and number gained): Florida +3 California +2 Texas +2 Arizona +1 Colorado +1 New Mexico +1 Oregon +1 Tennessee +1 Utah +1 Washington +1

States expected to lose congressmen: New York -4 Illinois -2 Ohio -2 Pennsylvania -2 Massachusetts -1 Michigan -1 New Jersey -1 South Dakota -1
