South Korea's political screening committee restored the rights of 268 persons banned from participating in politics for eight years. Appeals by a further 318 persons against their banning order were rejected by the nine-member committee, appointed by President Chun Doo Hwan. Among those whose political rights were restored were 101 former members of the last Parliament, dissolved along with all political parties in South Korea when the new Constitution was promulgated last month.
