Poland has asked Western governments for $8 billion in new financial aid to overcome its mounting economic problems.Western officials said Poland, which has already borrowed $21.1 billion form the West, asked for new government credits and rescheduling of existing government debts totaling this amount from the United States, Britain, France, Belgium, West Germany, and Italy. The officials said latest forecasts suggest that without further aid, the Polish economy runs a great risk of defaulting on its current debts.
