Poles threaten a strike for more meat and butter
| Warsaw
Workers in the town of Piotrkow Trybunalski threatened factory strikes to back demands for more Christmas meat and butter. The Solidarity trade union said that the protest, called off after two days Friday when better supplies were promised, was being resumed because no extra supplies had arrived. A spokesman said the action did not have the support of the union's leadership, which has promised to avoid strikes until Jan. 15. The protest appeared a fresh example of the problems faced by the 10 million-strong union in maintaining discipline.
