Iran claims more gains in a drive against Iraq

Iran claimed further victories in its week-old counteroffensive against Iraq and said it had routed two Iraqi battalions in recent fighting on the western front, the official Pars News Agency reported. Tehran Radio quoted Prime Minister Muhammad Ali Rajai as saying that "we have achieved glorious victories. We have got back major parts of our lands . . . ."

Meanwhile, Iraq is continuing to discount Iranian clai ms of major victories in the Persian Gulf war.
