Sadat said to be critical of US role with hostages

President Sadat was quoted as saying the United States' handling of the hostage crisis had cast doubt on its commitment to friends in the Mideast. US Rep. James H. Scheuer (D) of New York, who met Mr. Sadat last week, said the President felt the US should have acted more decisively. Mr. Sadat hinted that the hostages should have been sacrificed for American prestige.

Mr. Sadat also criticized what he called American prevarication over the Soviet intervention in Afghanis tan and over the granting of asylum to the deposed Shah here
