Speculation abounds as to whether the impending divorce of US Sen. Edward M. Kennedy will injure him politically. Supporters of the Massachusetts Democrat generally agree that the dissolving of his 22-year marriage to his wife, Joan, will not weaken his 1982 reelection prospects, despite the state's substantial Roman Catholic population, Monitor writer George Merry reports. Less certain is how much, if any, of a liability the divorce might be should the senator again purs ue the presidency in 1984.
