Zambian labor strife erupts in violence
| Lusaka, Zambia
The first death in more than a week of labor unrest here occurred when police stepped in to quell a riot in a mining town in Zambia's copper-belt province, the official press reported. Fifty people were also reported injured in the incident.
Recent unrest leading to wildcat strikes appeared to be almost over in the copper and cobalt mines but was still continuing in the banks. It has stemmed from growing friction between labor and Zambia's only legal political organizat ion.
