US funds given in search for Atlanta child slayer

A $979,000 federal authorization has been approved to help in the search for Atlanta's child killer. Sen. Mack Mattingly (R) of Georgia announced the authorization in Washington, saying $650,000 of the funds would come from the Justice Department's Office of Juvenile and Delinquency Prevention and the remaining $329,000 would come from other federal agencies.

Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson asked for federal funds to help in the investigation, which officials say is costin g the city $150,000 a month.
