Senate panel backs Reagan budget cutting

The Senate Budget Committee voted billions of dollars in spending cuts Tuesday night, solidly endorsing President Reagan's plans to reduce the Size of government programs. The Republican-controlled committee proposed cuts of nearly $4 billion in fiscal 1982, and $6.4 billion more in reductions in fiscal 1983.
Committee chairman Pete Dominici told the group he wanted to finish committee action on the budget-cutting plans late Wednesday and produce more cuts than the the committee would have to cut more, since its staff believed the President had underestimated 1982 spe nding by perhaps $20 billion.
