Soviet official at UN granted asylum by US

A Soviet member of the UN Secretariat who quit his job last week has been granted political asylum in the United States together with his wife and daughter, a spokesman for the US mission said. He is Alexander Sakharov, who was a junior official in the radio and visual services division of the UN's Department of Public Information.
Mr. Sakharov joined the UN last May. Since his resignation, his whereabouts have been unknown, according to UN spokesman.
