The most dangerous workplace in all of government service? No, it's not the military. It's the post office.

The Postal Service has the highest accident rate of all federal agencies, according to a recent OSHA study.

Postal union officials blame automated equipment for the problem, coupled with the setting aside of many safety rules to achieve greater productivity and lower costs.

Postal contract talks begin this month, and union demands will include that minimum safety standards be met. That would almost certainly bring on the 20 -cent stamp by year's end to help cover the added co sts.m
