| New York
Adapting a Latin American tradition, a group of US church leaders will carry a cross from the White House to the State Department on Good Friday (April 17) to protest military aid to El Salvador, Monitor contributor Tracy Early reports.
The group making the "Way of Suffering" procession will include top executives of the National Council of Churches and several of its member denominations, plus members of Roman Catholic religious orders.
A spokesman for Arie Brouwer, general secretary of the Reformed Church in America, who initiated the action, said representatives of council denominations would join with Catholic officials in a worship service that morning and then hold a press conference before assembli ng in Lafayette Park at noon.
