Bible translation a sellout in China
| Peking
A Chinese translation of the Bible published by the Chinese Protestant Association has sold its entire print run of 135,000 copies, a church spokesman reported. The Bible, reprinted in a translation first published about 1910, is distributed by Protestants and costs 5 yuan ($3.10). Organized religion was smashed during the Maoist Cultural Revolution of 1966-76, but the government now tolerates and even encourages a limited amount of religious activity.
