Leaven
What explains the news from Peking that the entire printing of a Chinese translation of the Bible (135,000 copies) has sold out? It says there are no boundaries to the yearning for the truth that makes men free. A yearning not erased when religion is suppressed as in China's bygone Cultural Revolution. A yearning not diminished when times change as in the scenario of officials who now tolerate religion on grounds it will fade anyway when living standards rise.
Know they not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Some lump! -- as Churchill might have said, looking at China's vastness. But then, as those lifted up by the Bible can testif y, some leaven!
