Teachers, utility workers back up Bermuda strike

Thousands of people walked off their jobs in support of a pay dispute involving government and hospital workers in this island nation. Joining the walkout were hundreds of teachers, plus workers at the privately owned Bermuda Electricity Company, who voted to stage a one-day sympathy protest. Government officials warned islanders to expect rotating power cuts and advised people to stock up with candles because of the walkout by electricity workers.
