Upsurge of boat people in Malaysia this year

More than 13,500 vietnamese refugees arrived in Malaysia during the first five months of this year, an 80 percent increase over the same period last year, informed sources said. in May, nearly 5,300 refugees landed, more than double the arrivals in May 1980. Officials expect the high rate of arr ivals to continue.
