Greece breaks off talks on operation of US bases

Greece has suspended negotiations with the United States on a new agreement providing for the operation of American military bases in Greece, the Foreign Ministry reported. A statement said the six-month-old talks on a defense and economic cooperation pact had ended inconclusively with disagreement on a number of terms. New negotiations were expected to start after the Greek general elections, due no later than N ovember.
