'Superman II' debut leaps tall box-office records

"Superman II" has shattered all records with a first-day box office gross of A spokesman for Warner Bros. said Friday's box office gross of $4,449,000 was both the highest opening day and the highest sum for a Friday ever scored for a film.

Saturday, the movie had the highest box office day in motion picture history, with $5,603,000. The previous single day high was notched by "Star Wars," with

If Sunday's gross exceeds $4 million, it will add up to a $14 million-plus gross for three days. The highest three-day gross fo r any film was held by "Star Trek," at $11.9 million.
