Food stamps to continue uncut through Sept. 30

Prompt action by Congress and the concurrence of President Reagan will keep 22.9 million Americans in food stamps through Sept. 30. Mr. Reagan signed a bill raising the ceiling on food stamp spending for fiscal 1981 by $1.7 billion, to $11.48 billion. Without the action, Agriculture Secretary John Block would have been forced to inform states that food stamp money was running out and sharp cuts would be necessary through Sept. 30, the end of the current fiscal year.
