Time out of time

Your time out of time is the time when all the world is quiet and warm in bed, winding up, winding down, for another lateral fling into all the familiar spaces we daily do inhabit, another push towards the boundaries of another spent season; while you, treasuring the propinquities of the frayed lamp shade, the still light on the page, and the almost visible stillness in which your child and neighbor sleep, gather in the quiet like the waters that envelop the diver in the cove, until he begins to fathom, in the relief of a new occasion, granted at last, the elaborate unsuspected corruscations, quick passage of unfamiliar creatures, the shimmering coral tints, and the gentle sc rape of rough new rock.
