Asian lands may put Zhao on spot over insurgency

Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang, who will tour the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore starting Thursday, is expected to hear strong criticism of China's continuing support for communist insurgents in Southeast Asia. Diplomatic observers describe this support as a chief reason making some Southeast Asian nations suspicious of China's long-term intentions toward its neighbors as Mr. Zhao sets out to enlist firm allies against the Soviet Union and Vietnam.
