Some 55,834 executives were polled by Standard & Poor's to discover from which colleges and universities they held degrees. Although a total of 498 colleges and universities were listed, a handful of major universities accounted for half their total.
Accounting for graduate degrees, the top 10 were:
Harvard University -- 3,920.
New York University -- 1,365.
Columbia University -- 1,210.
University of Michigan -- 811.
University of Pennsylvania -- 726.
University of Chicago -- 696.
Northwestern University -- 659.
Mass. Institute of Technology -- 568.
Rutgers -- the State University -- 556.
Stanford University -- 516.
The top 10 granting undergraduate degrees to top executives were:
Yale -- 1,827.
Harvard -- 1,494.
City U of New York -- 1,339.
Princeton -- 1,313.
New York U -- 1,250.
U of Pennsylvania -- 1,171.
U of Michigan -- 1,125.
U of Illinois -- 1,072.
U of Wisconsin -- 1,017.
Northwestern -- 932.
