Inside Report (2)
Libya's volatile Col. Muammar Qaddafi raised eyebrows recently by boasting he would attack American or NATO bases if the US tried to overthrow him. Greece, Turkey, and Italy have such military facilities, and Spain soon may have NATO bases. All have extensive links to Libya. Thinking better of the statement, Colonel Qaddafi later accused Western Media of misquoting his Sept. 1 speech. Spanish, Italian, Greek, and Turkish diplomats were called in for Libyan reassurances.
The original speech contained this line: "If the US bases in Western Europe and the Mediterranean countries take part in this attack, support this attack, it will be our right to, in self-defense, attack these bases. . . . Let Sicily hear, let Crete, Greece, Turkey, and Western Europe hear."m
