Getting rid of moldy smell on hideaway bed mattress

Q. A 10-year-old hideaway bed mattress has a moldy smell to it. What can I do to get rid of the odor? Lysol and outdoor sunning do not do the job. Mary Alta Mann Glen Burnie, Md.

A. A veteran custodian advises that you go to a janitorial supply house and buy a commercial deodorant. Apply the product according to the label directions on the package.

Should the contractant fail to remove the odor, seek help from a professional listed in the Yellow Pages under "deodorizing and disinfecting."
