Politics puts decontrol of gas prices in limbo

More than 1,000 demonstrators massed outside the American Petroleum Institute annual meeting, protesting that the accelerated decontrol of natural gas prices favored by the oil industry would send prices skyrocketing.

But industry lobbyists said controls could be removed as early as next summer and will do little - if anything - to force up inflation.
