Racially split vote returns Ferre as Miami mayor
| Miami
Puerto Rican-born Maurice Ferre, relying on support from black voters, was elected to a fifth term as Miami mayor, and defeated Cuban-born Manolo Reboso and his Anglo-Hispanic coalition
Ferre, 47, won with almost 56 percent of the vote in the run-off contest to Mr. Reboso's 44 percent. Voter turn-out was heavy, and split along ethnic lines.
