The recount under way in New Jersey's race for governor could affect the US -Senate's agenda. A resolution to expel Sen. Harrison -Williams (D) of New Jersey, convicted May 1 for bribery and conspiracy in an Abscam case, is scheduled for debate Dec. 3. If -Williams is ousted, the new governor would determine which party holds the seat.
Republican Thomas Kean held a slim 1,677 vote lead after the regular election , but Democrat James Florio demanded a -recount. If Kean wins, Senate Republicans will try to stall action on Williams until -January when the new governor could name a Republican to fill the vacancy.
Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan would like the job. And some in the -administration would push for his -appointment, hoping that relations with organized labor might improve under someown else.
