Preteen girl is accepted for admission to Oxford

A 10-year-old English girl has been accepted at Oxford University after finishing first among 530 candidates in a mathematics entrance examination. Ruth Lawrence, who says she wants to be a mathematics professor, will begin her university studies in October 1983 at the age of 12.
