Weinberger attacks Golan move

Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger has sharply attacked Israel's ''annexation'' of the Golan Heights and declined to rule out US support for United Nations sanctions against the Israeli government.

''What they have done now is, I think, clearly a violation of the United Nations resolutions and therefore of the Camp David agreement,'' Mr. Weinberger said.

Syria has termed the Israeli move an act of war and called for a UN Security Council meeting to complain.

In an interview on ABC-TV, Weinberger called Israel's move ''provocative and what I would characterize as destabilizing in that very volatile area.''

His comments were sharper than those by Secretary of State Alexander Haig, who has condemned the Israeli move.
